Ƶto Present End of Semester Concerts
Ƶwill be hosting three end of semester concerts
Ƶ will be hosting three concerts as the semester comes to a close.
There will be a 4th Avenue Jazz concert held on Tuesday, May 3 at 8 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The performance will feature the 16-voice 4th Avenue Singers and the 4th Avenue Band. Come for a relaxed evening of big band standards, fresh jazz perspectives, featured solos, and a variety of collaborations between singers and instruments. The 4th Avenue Singers are directed by Ryan Smit, and the 4th Avenue Band is directed by Kevin Linder. The Ƶ Choral Department will present a Choral Ensembles Concert on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. This performance will include the Bella Voce women’s chorus, Canons of Ƶmen’s chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir (56-voice advanced mixed choir). The repertoire will feature modern works, multicultural perspectives, and deep convictions of faith expressed through song. Bella Voce is conducted by Dr. Carrie Groenewold; all other ensembles are conducted by Ryan Smit. On Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, the Ƶinstrumental ensembles will present their final concert of the academic year. The concert will feature the Campus-Community Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. They will be joined by guest conductor Maestro Michael Johner. Maestro Johner joins us from Rottenburg, Germany where he is the principal conductor of numerous ensembles. He will guest conduct all three of the Ƶensembles, bringing his knowledge and experience with German and European music to Ƶstudents. The concert will also present music by Brahms, Fillmore, and Ver Der Roost. To close the concert, the ƵWind Symphony will perform Omar Thomas’s acclaimed “Come Sunday,” which has proven to often have listeners dancing in their seat!
