NISO to hold auditions on Saturday, September 6

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) will hold auditions this fall for select open positions.

The Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra (NISO) is seeking to fill the following positions:

  • Principal French Horn
  • Second Oboe
  • String players (all sections)

Auditions for these positions will be held Saturday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to noon in Dordt’s Performing Arts Center. Those interested in an audition should contact Andrea Munson for time slot options and repertoire information.

NISO is an ensemble that draws musicians from surrounding communities including Sioux Center, Hull, Orange City, Rock Valley, Sioux Falls, Sioux City, Storm Lake, Rock Rapids, Vermillion, and beyond. It includes adults of all ages as well as gifted music students from area high schools and colleges.

In a community the size of Sioux Center, it is rare that a full orchestra of this nature might be offered, says NISO Principal Conductor Dr. Onsby Rose.

“NISO is also a benefit to musicians in that it gives them the ability to continue to use their God-given talent of playing an instrument, and to do so also offers the advantage of providing a great artistic outlet for our greater community.”
