Outside of the classroom, Matthews has edited book reviews for , °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ's journal of reformed studies. He has also helped edit the and the . Additionally, Matthews co-leads a class on Dante and the Italian Renaissance, which includes a nine-day trip to Florence, Italy.
