Construction on the Rozenboom Family Athletic Center continues

“These updates are about more than aesthetics,” says Vice President of Operations Fred Verwoerd. “They’re designed to improve the overall experience—for athletes competing, for fans attending events, and for the many students who use this space throughout the year.”

Construction on the next phase of improvements to the Rozenboom Family Athletic Center at ͹Ƶ began in late March, following the conclusion of the basketball season.

The project marks continued progress in enhancing one of the university’s most prominent gathering spaces for student-athletes, fans, and the broader campus community.

This phase of construction will focus on opening and expanding key areas within the facility to create a more welcoming and connected environment. Plans include updates to both the north and south sides of the gymnasium, with a larger south concourse that will feature new concessions and improved views of the court. A smaller north concourse will also provide additional seating and overlook space.

“These updates are about more than aesthetics,” says Vice President of Operations Fred Verwoerd. “They’re designed to improve the overall experience—for athletes competing, for fans attending events, and for the many students who use this space throughout the year.”

Additional upgrades include a new scoreboard and sound system. It also includes the installation of air conditioning throughout the gymnasium, an improvement expected to significantly enhance comfort during warmer months and high-attendance events.

The project will also include a modest expansion of the court area behind the baskets to improve player safety.

Construction is expected to continue into the fall semester. While a specific completion date has not been finalized, university leaders anticipate reopening the space during the fall term.

During construction, members of the campus community can expect some temporary disruptions, including construction fencing in central campus areas and changes to nearby parking availability.

The Rozenboom Family Athletic Center has long served as a hub for ͹Ƶathletics and campus life. These improvements reflect the university’s ongoing commitment to investing in facilities that support student development, community engagement, and a vibrant campus experience.
