Esther Vander Goot, a graphic design major from Visalia, California, will have her senior art exhibit, "Home," on display in the Campus Center Art Gallery from April 13 to May 7.
The exhibit features three series of paintings, each depicting different locations Vander Goot has been able to call home: central California, Sioux Center, Iowa, and the Netherlands, where Vander Goot studied abroad.
Though each place depicted is distinct, Vander Goot intentionally draws connections between the three paintings. “A theme that crosses through each painting is the Lord’s faithfulness, represented by a horizon line,” says Vander Goot. “Whether it is positioned in the center, towards the top, or off the panel, there is a horizon, and that horizon line is where the Lord meets us, wherever we are.”
“My hope is that viewers will see reflections of their own journeys within these paintings, whether that be memories of hope, adapting to a new place, or dealing with uncertainty in the road ahead, and ultimately, to be reminded and comforted that our only true and unchanging home is found in Christ,” she adds.
To learn more about Vander Goot and her work, the community is invited to a public reception in the gallery on April 21 at 7 p.m.
